Obsessed with beachy decor? First of all - same, and second of all - you’re in the right place!
Today, I’m sharing twenty gorgeous pieces of inspiration to help you turn your dorm into a stunning tropical paradise.
I’m touching on everything from bedding, wall decor, greenery, furniture and more as well as sharing my top decor finds and tips to help you recreate these ideas in your own space.
Student life can be stressful, but a beachy dorm is sure to help you stay relaxed, refreshed, and ready to tackle whatever college throws your way. Let’s get to the good stuff!
#1: Soft & Airy Blues
Blue is one of the first colors we think of when it comes to the beach, so why not use it as the basis for designing your tropical dorm room?
If you love cool and simple color palettes, the above dorm is perfect for inspiration. I just love the ocean tapestry on the wall!
How relaxing does it sound to fall asleep and wake up with a giant image of the sea right next to you?
Just be sure to double check your school’s housing rules when it comes to hanging tapestries up. I know my dorm didn’t allow them.
For a calming coastal vibe, consider framing beachy prints instead. Frame Destination has many frame options, allowing you to customize them to fit your beachy room theme perfectly!
#2: Cozy & Coastal
If you love bright and airy vibes that still feel cozy, this next style is for you.
This design is by Dormify - it’s their “Vitamin Sea Room.” I’m loving the soft color combo of white, tan, and blue.
It’s so calming and aesthetic, just like a beach. Recreating this design is easy peasy since you can find all the decor right on Dormify’s website.
#3: Rustic & Boho Vibes
Looking for more of a rustic style with some pops of color? Then you’ll definitely want to save this inspiration for later when it’s time to design!
This room uses a beautiful rust, blue, and white color palette that creates the perfect balance of contrast and cohesion.
I’m eyeing that macrame wall hanging and ruffle throw blanket on the corner of the bed, though. Perfect for adding a touch of coziness to your space!

#4: Bright, Boho, & Feminine
So many pretty bright tones here! If you have the space for it, I can’t recommend enough having somewhere to hang your dorm keys, student ID, and other going out essentials.
It’s sooo convenient and helpful to have those items all in one place. Plus, it helps reduce the chance of them getting lost!
And that’s coming from someone who lost her student ID card all the time freshman year.
As you can see, it’s also another opportunity to incorporate some cute beachy vibes into your dorm!
Pro tip - hang yours up using these command hooks. They’re a great mix of being discreet so as to not ruin the aesthetic while also being strong, sturdy, and non-damaging to your wall.
#5: Aesthetic Photo Collage With A Mirror
If you have a little empty wall space that you’re not sure what to do with, this is an adorable and super aesthetic design concept to try out - and it’s really easy to put together, too.
Grab a set of photos you want to hang up, a round mirror, and some sticky putty or command hooks, and you’ve got everything you need!
#6: Neutral & Natural
If you love natural tones in your decor, this one’s for you. There are just so many beautiful elements of nature incorporated into this dorm.
From the texture of the woven floor basket and the throw pillows to the wooden closet to the plant themed wall art, everything fits together wonderfully to make you feel like you’re relaxing on a tropical island when you haven’t even left your dorm room.
#7: Monochromatic Theme
Having trouble picking a color palette for your space? Try a monochromatic one or one that uses different shades of the same base color like in the image above.
This is a super helpful technique to use if decorating isn’t your thing, if you want to save a little time when decor shopping, or if you like simple styles like this one!
#8: Preppy Cali Surfer Girl
Ahhh how aesthetic is this dorm room? To recreate this look in your space, stick to decor and furniture that uses a soft color palette of pink, tan, white, off-white, and any neutral colors. Maybe a light orange, too.
Incorporate plenty of wood pieces to get that fresh, airy, natural feel in your room!
#9: Cute Collage, Mirror, & Neon Lights
Have some blank space on your wall? Try recreating this adorable and super trendy wall decor idea!
If you don’t want to take and print your own pictures, you can easily find pre-designed photo packs all ready to go online - Etsy is my go-to spot for this.
The lightning bolt sign and the crescent moon mirror are from Amazon. Simply hang everything up with sticky putty!

#10: Sunny Decor Elements
Few things are better at putting a smile on peoples’ faces than sunshine, so why not try to incorporate some sun into your dorm room?
Whether it’s through your headboard, pillows, bedding, wall art, furniture, or another way, this is a wonderful way to bring some life into a small dorm. Get creative with it!
#11: Beachy Tapestries
Absolutely obsessed with the tapestries (especially the one with the wave illustration) and the tan & blue color combination in this one!
This room makes me feel like the sand and the water are just a few steps outside my door. <3
#12: Retro & Tropical Desk Decor
Perfect for beach lovers who also want a bit of a retro vibe in their space. By the way - you can find those mini Volkswagen bus replicas on Amazon!
#13: Beach Life Wall Collage
This wall collage screams nostalgia to me. I can just picture whoever put this together collecting little mementos from different trips and experiences over the years and sticking them up on her wall to remember them by.
The end result is both heartwarming and aesthetically pleasing!
#14: Soft & Peachy
What a breath of fresh ocean air this next piece of inspiration is! For this room, it’s all about soft and gentle hues - peach, tan, off-white, white, sky blue, light orange, etc.
They all work together seamlessly to create such a welcoming and relaxing interior. Who wouldn’t want that vibe in their dorm?
Before I move on to the next one, I simply have to talk about that mirror hanging over the bed. I’m obsessed!
Going back to what I mentioned earlier about incorporating bits of sunshine into your space - something like this is just perfect for doing that.
#15: Livin’ That Hawaii Life
Want your dorm to feel like you’re in the middle of Oʻahu? There are so many cute ideas you can borrow from here to do just that!
First - this gorgeous ocean wall tapestry. I can practically hear the waves crashing against the wall!
The wood shark wall hanging is such a great way to add some fun and tropical vibes to your space, too.
Since dorms are usually pretty small, my advice to recreate this look is to find a similar wall hanging that doubles as a shelf.
Perfect for a little extra storage. If you’re eyeing those beachy laptop stickers like me, I found a similar set on Amazon!

#16: Hanging Seashell Decor
What a fun DIY project this would make!
But if you’re like me and would rather just buy it ready-made, you can usually find similar decorations on Etsy.
Also definitely check out TJ Maxx and HomeGoods if you can, because I’ve seen a ton of super cute beachy decor every time I’ve been to those stores.
#17: Calm Ocean Vibes
Calling all neutral lovers (aka me) - this “Tulum Dreams” design from Dormify has you covered with all the natural boho vibes.
I’m absolutely loving all the beautiful textures in this room - from the throw blanket, floor pouf, macrame wall hanging, and more.
Plus the “you’re so golden” sign is just adorable. I’m not sure if that sign was an intentional Harry Styles reference on Dormify’s part or not but either way I love it!!
#19: “Marine Biology Student” Desk Decor
Okay, this desk is totally giving me “marine biology student” vibes - and I am so here for it!
I can absolutely picture a busy college student having late night study sessions here, referencing the textbook pages she stuck on her wall and sipping an iced coffee to stay awake.
Whether you study marine biology or just love the ocean, this is such a cute idea to take inspiration from for your own desk.
#20: White, Clean, & Simple
When in doubt, keep it simple. There’s no better way to convey the refreshing feel of a day at the beach than by using a clean and bright design style like this one.
Simple is also ideal for dorm living - anyone who’s ever lived in a dorm knows it’s important to save space however you can!
