Things To Do In New York’s Hudson Valley (For Sports Fans)

When you think of the Hudson Valley, you probably think of gorgeous rolling mountains, wineries, and a quiet getaway from New York City.

It has all of that and more!

Now don’t get me wrong. NYC is where you go for sports.

But if you’re in the Hudson Valley and feel like catching a game, you’ve got some great options to choose from without having to go into the city.

That’s what this post is all about!

I’m a HV native and super excited to share some great things to do around this beautiful region of New York State.

Here are the best things to do in NY’s Hudson Valley (for sports fans).

Catch A Hudson Valley Renegades Game

Who are the Hudson Valley Renegades?

The Renegades are a minor league baseball team and high a affiliate of the New York Yankees.

Where do they play?

They play at Duchess Stadium (aka “the dutch”) in Fishkill, NY.

Things to do nearby?

If you have kids, they’ll love Splash Down Beach, a fun little waterpark nestled right in between the mountains.

For food, try The Dutchess Biercafe, a must have for lovers of Belgain inspired cuisine (or anyone wanting to try some). For dessert, be sure to stop by Fishkill Creamery for classic cones, milkshakes, and sundaes.

Dutchess Stadium will have all of your typical baseball game food, so if you want to wait and eat at the game, you can totally do that.

What to bring?

You’re in luck - I have an entire article on 12 essentials to bring to a baseball game that details exactly what you should bring to stay safe, prepared, and comfortably enjoy the game.

Go To An Army Game

Who’s Army?

The Black Knights are the United States Military Academy’s D1 men’s and women’s athletics program.

Most people will think of football when it comes to Army sports, and the football games are awesome, but don’t forget Army has a ton of other sports you can go see if it’s not football season.

Where do they play?

They play on Army West Point’s campus in West Point, New York.

Things to do nearby?

If you want to make a day of it, I’d say the best way to spend the day before game time is Army West Point itself.

It’s genuinely one of the most beautiful college campuses I’ve ever seen, overlooking the Hudson River and surrounded my mountains.

West Point’s campus is full of natural beauty, rich history, beautiful architecture, and great options for dining and entertainment.

I’ve seen Phillip Phillips and Blue Man Group perform there, among other cool shows and concerts!

Be sure to check out the events calendar to see what’s going on during your visit.

Catch A Game At Marist College

Who’s Marist?

Marist College is home to the Red Foxes, their D1 men’s and women’s athletics programs. You can watch football, basketball, soccer, lacrosse, and more!

Where do they play?

Right on campus, in Poughkeepsie, NY.

Things to do nearby?

Marist is the other prettiest college campus I’ve ever seen besides West Point.

I had the opportunity to tour it when applying to school and loved how it sat right next to river and the mountains!

You can easily spend an afternoon before game time taking a relaxing stroll through campus or sitting at the water’s edge.

But if I could only recommend one thing? Walkway Over The Hudson - “the world's longest elevated pedestrian bridge, connecting Poughkeepsie and Highland, New York.”

It’s truly a relaxing way to spend a couple of hours while enjoying a gorgeous view of the river, and within walking distance from Marist College!

That wraps up my post sharing some of the best things to do for sports fans in New York’s Hudson Valley.

I’m so happy I got to grow up in this beautiful region, and hope you have a wonderful time traveling the area!
