Heading to a Rochester Red Wings game?
Whether you’re a local or just visiting, if you’re looking for some things to do while you’re downtown for the game, you’re in the right spot!
In this post, I’m sharing an itinerary for spending the day in downtown Rochester, NY before you head to a Red Wings game.
This post assumes an evening start time for the game, and shares some of the best spots to explore, shop, and eat downtown.
The spots mentioned in this post are all walking distance from one another, so once you’re downtown, you won’t need a car to get from one to the other.
Rochester is my current home city and I’m exciting to share some of my favorite spots in this post.

Best Things To Do Near Innovative Field Before A Red Wings Baseball Game
Grab Brunch/Lunch While Exploring The Public Market
Start your day downtown by exploring the Rochester Public Market!
Enjoy walking through indoor and outdoor sheds featuring dozens of food, clothing, and art vendors.
The market itself has a wonderful, bustling atmosphere and plenty of interesting sights and smells to take in thanks to the wide variety of food vendors.
When it comes to food, you have a ton of options, especially for a late breakfast or some brunch.
If you’re in the mood for a coffee, there are two coffee shops within the market to grab a drink, sit, and enjoy the atmosphere inside, or sip on your drink while walking though the market.

Explore High Falls
Once you’re done at the Rochester Public Market, I recommend taking a stroll by High Falls.
High Falls is a really unique part of Rochester because it’s a waterfall in the middle of downtown.
I can’t think of any other cities that can say they have one of those!
This is a great spot to get some pictures, or sit and finish sipping on that coffee from the market while enjoying a beautiful view of the falls.

Grab Dinner At Genesee Brew House
If you plan on eating dinner at the Red Wings game or if you don’t have enough time, you can probably skip this part and head right to the game.
But if you’re still hungry, you won’t have to go very far to find one of Rochester’s favorite lunch and dinner spots: Genesee Brew House.
I’m a sucker for a good view, and the outdoor seating at Genesee Brew House does not disappoint, treating you to a gorgeous view overlooking High Falls while you eat.
Enjoy plenty of classic dining options like burgers, chicken, wraps, salad, and more, and of course plenty of options when it comes to adult beverages.
You can also sit at the bar, and if you have the time, take a tour of the brewery.

Head To The Game
It’s game time, baby.
From Genesee Brew House, cross the river and head to Innovation Field, home of the Rochester Red Wings (or the Rochester Plates if it’s Thursday).
